Former supermodel struggled to restart sagging career

Web posted at: 11:30 a.m. EDTSANTA MONICA, California (CNN) -- Nearly 35 years to the day after her famous grandfather killed himself, model-turned-actress Margaux Hemingway was found dead in her California apartment.
Authorities are waiting for an autopsy Wednesday to determine the cause of death.
"There was no sign of forced entry and no obvious foul play," said Santa Monica Police Sgt. Gary Gallinot. "No guns or illegal substances were found in the apartment."
Hemingway, 41, was last seen on Saturday by a neighbor. Her body was found Monday by a friend.
Hemingway's career soared in the 1970s as a top model with companies like Faberge. And then came movies, the 6-foot actress starring with her younger sister Mariel in the 1976 film "Lipstick." (516K QuickTime movie) But later movies did not see critical or commercial success.

Hemingway struggled to reignite her career throughout the 1990s, including a nude spread in Playboy magazine.
"I think it's a celebration of my rebirth," she said at the time. "I think it's one of the most positive things I've ever done."
She fought well-publicized battles with alcohol and bulimia, and compared her life to that of her hard-drinking grandfather, Ernest "Papa" Hemingway. But unlike the famous writer, his granddaughter sought treatment for alcoholism.

"Hopefully we learn from all of our experiences," she said, "and I certainly learned some great lessons, but not until I quit drinking."
Ernest Hemingway shot himself to death on July 2, 1961.
Margaux Hemingway was born in 1955 in Portland, Oregon, and moved to New York City in 1974 to begin her modeling career. She was married and divorced twice.
