PARIS (CNN) -- A stroll in a garden full of exquisite flowers and exquisite women inspired the spring Christian Dior couture collection from Gianfranco Ferre in Paris.(247K QuickTime movie)

Ferre used large bouquets to set the stage and completed the mood with sounds of chirping birds in the background.

He showed knee-length day ensembles and floor sweeping evening wear in soft, yet brightly colored hues. Ferre offered up each outfit like a singular perfect rose, meant to be admired and worn by women anywhere in the world.

Monsieur Dior, Ferre says, "said that the most beautiful things in life ... are flowers and women." Ferre says he tried "to make a gift to those two elements."

Prints and flowers flourish in the collection. "Flowers as prints, flowers as color, and flowers ... as woven fabric, so everything looks a little more foggy, a little confused and soft."

The designer says dresses are the "reason" he does couture, because it relies on accurate measurements for a precise fit. "Real couture is something that is expressly adapted to women."

Dior's spring line features simple tunic dresses and chemise dresses, as well as "underwear" dresses for wearing under long coats. The suits are made in menswear fabrics, but he kept them thoroughly feminine through his unique cutting. He also showed lace underwear that was so well finished he used it to replace blouses.

As he designs each season's collection, he says he feels the influence of Mr. Dior. His flowering spring line was no exception.
