Possible twister hits northern Kentucky

BRANDENBURG, Kentucky (CNN) -- A possible tornado touched down Sunday evening, causing extensive damage and some injuries near the northern Kentucky town of Brandenburg, a Kentucky State Police dispatcher told CNN.

It hit about three miles south of Brandenburg, destroying a mobile home in Meade County, she said.

Meade County Judge Joe Hager told CNN a state of emergency has been declared, but said he was not sure it was a tornado that caused the damage. He said it could have been the result of high winds.

"Less than 10 people were injured and there were no deaths," Hager said. Trees and power lines were down and roads blocked, he said.

The pilot lost control of the AT-6 trainer while performing low-level acrobatic maneuvers at the Sertoma Air Show. The plane crumpled when it struck the ground less than 150 yards from the stands, where an estimated 13,000 people watched.

Emergency crews arrived within one minute of the crash, and the crowd was cleared from the stands about 45 minutes later.

Teens charged with killing band director

FORT MYERS, Florida (CNN) -- Four teen-agers were charged with killing a band director after he spoiled an alleged plot to burn down a high school auditorium, authorities said Saturday.

The Lee County sheriff's office said the teen-agers went to the school Tuesday to set fire to the building, but band director Mark Schwebes, 32, foiled the attempt.

Fearing Schwebes would turn them in, the teen-agers allegedly went to his house that night and shot him, the office said.

Charged were Christopher Paul Black, 18; Derek Shields, 18; Kevin Don Foster, 18; and Peter Edward Magnotti, 17.

Black, Shields and Magnotti were enrolled at Riverdale High School. Foster is a former student. The four belonged to a gang called "The Lords of Chaos," authorities said.

Session of presidential golf auctioned for $76,000

Clinton

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- It's auction fever again. Bidders at a private school auction battled one another Saturday for the right to play golf with President Clinton.

The winning bid: $76,000.

The president offered to play 18 holes of golf with the highest bidder as part of an annual fund-raiser at Sidwell Friends, the private school attended by the president's daughter, Chelsea.

The golf outing with the president was predicted to go for $6,000 to $10,000. Three bidders hushed the crowd formed mostly of parents when bids reached $70,000.

Eventually, Robert Peck, manager of computer systems for the U.S. Customs Service, won. Peck, who has a child at the school, intends to take family members to the golfing session.

Reuters contributed to this report.
